Eir – Goddess

4. Blots to Eir

Personal Blot for Eir

Ritual Items:

  • Drinking horn or glass
  • Mead, beer, cider, or another beverage
  • Blessing bowl
  • Candle ( red)

Private Blot

In order to make an offering to Eir for her help in keeping you and yours healthy, first pour yourself a horn (or glass) of mead or other beverage and say:

“Eir, goddess of healing, hail!
Goddess of mercy, hail!
Handmaiden of Frigga, hail!
Odin’s Valkyrie and she who is considered the best leech, hail!”

Drink some of the mead or beverage and pour some out into the bowl for Eir so that you may help her through this offering to help with healing everywhere, so that she may also help you and yours when the time comes. Light the candle and say:

“Physician of the Gods, the Merciful One.
I give praise to you so that you may have the strength
I thank you for all you do and have done for me
I ask you to keep my family and loved ones healthy.
To help me when I need it and to have mercy
When I am in need.
Help me make the right choices
So that I can heal myself when needed
And be prepared for your skill and magic
I give this prayer as a thanks and as praise.
Hail Eir, Greatest Physician!”

Order or cook yourself a special meal. Give some of your food and drink to Eir with the thought of giving her the strength and energy she needs to heal–all those others who need her gift.

Throughout the meal, think of it must require of her to heal others who need her blessings, to be a handmaiden to Frigga and devoted to healing. Pour some more mead or other beverage in a final simple thank you to Eir and say:

“Spirits of the sky and the plentiful earth, spirits of running water and plants of field, forest, mountain, and ocean, ancestors of old and to the gods and goddesses: Accept this offering, my gift unto you.”

Personal Blót to Eir for Healing

Ritual Items:

  • Drinking horn or glass
  • Mead, beer, cider, or another beverage
  • Blessing bowl
  • Candle (red)

Private Blót

In order to make an offering to Eir for the sick or wounded person in your life, first pour yourself a horn (or glass) of mead or other beverage and say:

“Eir, goddess of healing, hail!
Goddess of mercy, hail!
Handmaiden of Frigga, hail!
Odin’s Valkyrie and she who is considered the best leech, hail!”

Drink some of the mead or beverage and pour some out into the bowl for Eir so that you may help her through this offering to help heal the person who needs it. Light the candle and say:

“Physician of the Gods, the Merciful One.
I ask you to speed medical healing, to speed the recovery of a person you overlooked be born—(insert the name of the person here).
I ask you to inspire the doctors to do no harm, and to do well in treating the one whom I pray for.
Inspire the doctors to have mercy, as you have mercy.
Their loved ones need your help, magic, skill, and healing.
Inspire (Name of person) whom I pray for to be patient and hopeful.
Hail Eir, Greatest Physician!”

Order or cook yourself a special meal. Give some of your food and drink to Eir with the thought of giving her the strength and energy she needs to heal, not just the person you performed this personal blot for, but all those others who need her gift.

Throughout the meal, think of it must require of her to heal others who need her blessings, to be a handmaiden to Frigga and devoted to healing. Pour some more mead or other beverage in a final simple thank you to Eir outside to a tree or a personal outside altar if you can and say:

“Spirits of the sky and the plentiful earth, spirits of running water and plants of field, forest, mountain, and ocean, ancestors of old and to the gods and goddesses: Accept this offering, my gift unto you.”

Round of Toasts

Instead of the normal Toast, please feel free to take this time to ask for Eir to take an active hand in either someone’s wellness, or in their training in becoming a physician.

Eir,
whose loving hands and sweet breath
brings healing and health.
We thank you for your gentle caress,
your soft ministrations and your care.
When stress,
strains,
aches and pains plague is,
you come with your lithe figure
and flowing hair to ease our distress.
Thank you for assisting us here in Midgard,
both tonight and the rest of the year.
Eir, goddess holy and wise,
we honor you.
HAIL EIR!!
